How it all began

I have a 9 year old son who is autistic with severe learning difficulties and sensory issues, which together make it really difficult for him to engage with toys and activities.  Before he started nursery school, he attended a Child Development Centre for specialist therapy before and during his autism assessment.  It was there they discovered that he responded really well to their touch screen computer.  In fact, he enjoyed it so much that it was the one activity they chose to calm him down if ever he became upset!

So, naturally, we thought it would be a great idea to get a touch screen monitor for home use.  I'm a web developer by trade, so I put my skills to good use by creating simple games for him to play using his new touch screen computer.  I created the Special Needs Software website in order to share the games I have made with other parents who have children with similar needs.

My games can be played online for free here, or downloaded for offline play here.

Although the games were designed for use with a touch screen computer, they can also be used with a mouse or alternative input device.
